I’ve always been a fan of cloves. The flavor, that spice kick is something I personally like. Most people find it too strong however. My hope is that by the end of this article you find the strength to include these in your diet and life more often, because they are a POWERHOUSE of value on the nutritional scale.
In fact, cloves just may just be the most underrated superfood of all time. They’re rarely talked about and often rejected due to their strong spicy flavor.
Cloves have been used for thousands of years and date back more than 2,000 years in Chinese medicine. It was used as both a fragrance and a spice both. I had a few years where I would just keep a big bag of cloves and I’d chew on 4 or 5 cloves at a time.
Spanish Study Reveals Cloves To Be ‘Best’ Antioxidant
Researchers at Miguel Hernandez university in Spain have found clove to be the best antioxidant because it has a high level of phenolic compounds as well as other properties. Phenolic compounds are also known as phenols. They are groups of metabolites that are necessary for the metabolism to function.
Out of 5 different antioxidant properties tested. Cloves had the highest ability to give off hydrogen, a strong antioxidant element from the periodic table. Hydrogen benefits mitochondrial function, digestion, immunity and is a scientifically proven radiation protection element.
Cloves also reduced lipid peroxidation, which simply means that it reduces the oxidative stress that comes from the degradation of lipids (typically fats). Cloves are also the best iron reducer. In other words, if the body has excess amounts of Iron. Cloves can reduce that.
“These substances exhibit high antioxidant capacity, and could have beneficial effects for health,” the researcher shared.
The 3 Key Benefits Of Cloves
- Best Ability To Give Off Hydrogen:
Cloves have the highest ability to give off Hydrogen in the body. Most health conscious individuals have no idea how important hydrogen is. But think about it. What is water? H20. Water is 2 parts hydrogen and 1 part oxygen, at a molecular level. Hydrogen is quite literally the most essential element for hydration.
Water is life, and so is oxygen. Hydrogen paired with oxygen creates water. If your cells are not hydrated at a cellular level then they could be lacking hydrogen. Furthermore, hydrogen is scientifically proven to reduce the damage and effects from the oxidative effects of radiation. We’re talking about WIFI signals. Cell phone signals and towers. Smart devices. The list goes on and on. Anything that gives off a signal whether its wifi, cellular, bluetooth, location is emitting biologically harmful radiation to your body.
Hydrogen is the go to antioxidant that is shown proof to reduce this oxidative stress. Cloves happen to be the best hydrogen producers in the body. There are quite literally supplements that are simply hydrogen capsules that cost $60 a bottle. I used to recommend these but now I’d simply recommend a supplement with cloves in it.
When hydrogen ions enter the ATP synthase complex process in the body, more ATP is produced by the Mitochondria. ATP is the currency of energy in individual cells. If the cells have more energy they age less and carry longevity and youthfulness further. If you want more energy, get more hydrogen in your diet by eating more cloves.
Beyond the many benefits of hydrogen that cloves give. Hydrogen also benefits the gut microbiome by balancing the bacteria levels and bringing them into more balance. Think of hydrogen like a probiotic-like agent that acts to keep the good and bad guys (bacteria) in check. That means better digestion and a slimmer waist. - Highest ORAC Food in The World:
ORAC stands for oxygen radical absorbance capacity. This is essentially the measure of a substance in its ability to handle oxygen free radicals and the damage that comes with it. Oxidative (oxygen based) aging. It’s interesting that oxygen gives us life, but it is also oxidative. When that apple begins to turn brown in color after you took a bite and left it sitting out, that’s oxidation. High ORAC foods have the ability to handle that oxidation from oxygen better than the rest.
Cloves happen to be the highest ORAC food in the world, above anything. In other words, eating more cloves helps to coherently utilize and optimize oxygen in your life.
We need oxygen to live and survive. It is the most valuable nutrient for our survival but it also ages us through oxidative damage. Cloves are your best friend when it comes to oxidative damage. Cloves are also a rich source of Eugenol, another potent antioxidant that helps the body fight free radicals. This can reduce your risk of developing certain cancers, diabetes and heart disease. - Cloves Are Anti-Inflammatory:
Cloves actually contain multiple compounds that help to reduce inflammation in the body. Eugenol being one of these core compounds. Eugenol has been shown to reduce the inflammatory response of the body, reducing the risk of conditions such as arthritis. Inflammation is also the reason for any pain in the body. Back pain, neck pain, knee pain. It is said that a body in a state of inflammation is more likely to develop conditions and diseases as well. A body with a tumor has been in an inflammatory state for a while.
Beyond these benefits cloves are are known to reduce ulcers, improve liver health and digestive health.
Nutritionally, cloves are a great source of Eugenol, beta-carotene, potassium and Vitamin K.
There are many ways to get cloves in your diet. Most people are not a fan of the strong pungent taste to eat on their own, but they pair well in certain dishes and add a nice spice. You can also throw a handful of cloves into water and let it sit, and it creates a spicy rich water that I personally love.
Remember that clove is a warming spice. Cloves are going to keep your body warm in the colder months. Be sure to be stocked up on cloves all year round, but especially in the colder months!

Thank you so much for this!
I have been doing oil pulling with cloves as an essential oil when I had a tooth ache and still do it.
I have a Hydrogen machine that lets me breathe in Hydrogen and oxygen in the night and it greatly helped me with my Pulmonary Fibrosis.
I will now start drinking a glass of water with cloves or the oil.
Thank you again!!!
Of course Cornelia! Glad you enjoyed it. I personally love cloves and just recently learned that they are the #1 hydrogen producing food in the world! It’s funny you share that. I actually have a hydrogen machine too and it’s great. I’m realizing I mine as well keep more cloves or clove products on me however because hydrogen is a great element for protecting from radiation as well! Thank you for commenting! More articles (and videos) to come!
