The Mysterious Superfood: A Colorful Berry That Grows Near The Amazon River – Camu Camu

Do you remember the first time you ever ate a berry? as a kid. I don’t quite remember the first time I had a berry. But I can only imagine my face lighting up as this juicy deliciousness explodes with juicy flavor. Berries to me can only be described as the closest thing to natures candy, and I love them so much! Especially in the hotter months. Berries are a cool, hydrating snack that help to bring blood sugar levels back up. Nourishing they are.

Whether its blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, goji berries. I’m a fan of all the berries.

I love that berries are so readily available in our environment. They grow wild, on their own. They don’t need farming, farmers, chemical fertilizers. Nothing! They’re wild as it gets.

The Mysterious Red & Orange Superberry Near The Amazon River Basin

Deep in the Amazon jungle there is a rather special berry, a rather unique berry that has taken on traits and a nutritional life of it’s own. The camu camu berry. The berry has a green, orange, red and yellow hue to it, depending on the season. It grows near the amazon river and for part of the year the ENTIRE tree is submerged in water, and when the water levels subside the trees sprout and berries pop out! Like shown below.

What Makes Camu Camu Berry So Special?

First things first, camu camu berry grows native to the Amazon rainforest. That alone makes it special. The amazon rainforest is a rich environment with incredible biodiversity. Plant biodiversity, soil biodiversity. It is a humid, warm, sun filled environment. The soil is rich. The humidity creates an environment that allows bacteria, viruses, and microorganisms to flourish.

This could be bad, even lethal for a human in this environment. Malaria or dengue, or any other viruses or parasites, or bacterial infections can take you out and decompose you back into the earth faster than you’d think. Especially in the Amazon.

Because of this, plant species in the amazon are incredibly therapeutic? Why? They have to develop anti-microbial, anti-parasitic, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties.

The plants do this because they need to fight and survive, and only the strongest survive in this highly active microorganism rich environment.

Nutritional & Health Benefits Of Camu Camu Berry:

It at one point was the #1 highest source of vitamin C in the world for any plant. I believe it’s #2 now. Still very high. Vitamin C is the most researched antioxidant in the world. Benefiting immunity, skin and hair health. It is neuroprotective and more.

Camu camu berry contains acetic acid. Acetic acid helps to pull heavy metals out of the body.

Camu camu berry is anti-inflammatory. Helping to reduce inflammation throughout the body.
